PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a hydrogen storage alloy for electrode used for a hydrogen-storage-alloy electrode, to improve the electric-discharge characteristics of an alkaline storage battery using the hydrogen-storage-alloy electrode as a negative electrode, and to obtain sufficient electric-discharge capacity even in the case of electric discharge under a large amount of electric current. SOLUTION: The hydrogen-storage-alloy electrode 11 is manufactured by using the hydrogen storage alloy for electrode in which a nickel-containing coating layer is formed on the surface of hydrogen-storage-alloy particles and further the existence ratio A of nickel contained in the coating layer and the sum B of the existence ratios of alloy components other than nickel in the hydrogen-storage-alloy particle contained in the coating layer satisfies the condition of 0.1<=A/B<=5.0. This hydrogen-storage-alloy electrode is used as the negative electrode for the alkaline storage battery.
