PURPOSE: A reciprocating compressor is provided to execute discharge stroke twice for a single reciprocating movement of a piston. CONSTITUTION: A reciprocating compressor includes a hermetic container(V) having an intake pipe(SP) and a discharge pipe(DP); a first cylinder(10A) and a second cylinder(10B) installed in the hermetic container to face each other; a single piston body(20) having a first piston part(20A) and a second piston part(20B) joined to a mover, a magnet assembly(5) of a reciprocating motor(M) placed in the hermetic container, inserted to the first cylinder and the second cylinder to slide and having a refrigerant passage(21) therein to be fluidically connected with the intake pipe; a first intake valve(30A) and a second intake valve(30B) installed on front end surfaces of the first piston part and the second piston part, respectively, to limit intake of refrigerant gas of each; and a first discharge valve assembly(40A) and a second discharge assembly(40B) installed on front end surfaces of the first cylinder and the second cylinder and having a first discharge valve(41A) and a second discharge valve(41B), respectively, to limit discharge of compressed refrigerant gas.
