PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus having the function of appropriately visually confirming the position of a catheter on an MRI monitor. SOLUTION: This magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is provided with a second high-frequency magnetic field generating means which is installed in the main body of the catheter and generates a second high-frequency magnetic field by means of a control section before or after at least a first high-frequency magnetic field and an inclined magnetic field are generated and a means which displays the position of the catheter inserted into a subject on the MRI monitor. Alternatively, the imaging apparatus is provided with a second receiving means installed in the main body of the catheter inserted into the subject, a signal processing means which reconstitutes a second image by using echo signals detected by means of the second receiving means, and a means which synthesizes a predetected first image with the second image on a displaying means.
