PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anode material for a lithium ion secondary battery of high capacity, heavy load characteristics and excellent handling whose decomposition can be restrained even under existence of propylene carbonate used for portable equipment or the like such as a cellular phone, a PDA, and a personal computer, and its manufacturing method, as well as a lithium ion secondary battery using the anode material. SOLUTION: The anode material for the lithium ion secondary battery wholly consists of graphite with its core material made of graphite particles, covered with a basal surface (100) and/or an amorphous coated part formed of a graphite skeleton. As the manufacturing method of an anode material for the lithium ion secondary battery, an amorphous pitch or crystalline pitch is first coated on a particle surface of a core material of carbon or graphite nature by a mechanochemical method, and then, is made unfusible, carbonized and graphitized so that a whole part covered with a basal face (100) with a particle surface formed of a carbon skeleton and/or an amorphous coated part is composed of graphite.
