<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of production for a 3-methylindole compound by using a low cost hydrogenation catalyst without addition of sulfur component, in an economic process, friendly to the environment with high yield and capable of reusing the catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The 3-methylindole compound is produced in the process which carries out aldehyde reduction of indole-3-carboxyaldehyde compound in an atmosphere of hydrogen, in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and a solvent at 50-300°C, reaction pressure of 0.345-6.89 MPa (50-1,000 psig). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
