PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous membrane for a separation membrane which is excellent not only in filtration performance but also in mechanical strength such as zero degree tensile strength, flexural strength or the like and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The porous membrane is formed of a porous body containing a mixture component of a polyvinylidene fluoride resin and an elastomer, preferably a synthetic rubber such as a fluorocarbon rubber and a reinforcing fiber body is laid inside. The porous membrane is excellent in filtration performance and in mechanical strength such as flexural strength and is effectively used under severe use conditions such as in various water treatment applications regarded to have difficulty in filtration and separation with conventional membrane separation methods and realizes improved quality of a filtrate and compact size of equipment.
