<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-strength silicon nitride sintered compact with good wear resistance; and a slide member, a wear-resistant member and a rolling element for bearings using it. <P>SOLUTION: The silicon nitride sintered compact contains silicon nitride as the major component. The value of A of the undermentioned formula (1) defining the 2-ball crushing load when formed into a spherical shape is at least 350. The sintered compact is used for manufacturing the slide member, the wear-resistant member and the rolling element for the bearings. The formula (1) is P=AD<SP>1.8</SP>, wherein P, A, and D represent the 2-ball crushing load (unit:N), a coefficient, and the diameter of the ball (unit:mm), respectively. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
