<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more efficiently cool a surrounding part of a phosphor of a lighting means within a limited space by providing a blast means for delivering air vertically to a moving direction of a mobile optical system to an apparatus main body and a cooling duct to the mobile optical system, the cooling duct allowing air from the blast means to efficiently act on the lighting means provided to the mobile optical system. <P>SOLUTION: In the document scanning apparatus, the blast means 2 delivering air vertically to a moving direction of the mobile optical system 105 is provided to the apparatus main body, and a component 6 on the mobile optical system is used also for the cooling duct.
