PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contribute to the improvement of exhaust gas characteristics from an engine in a parallel hybrid electric vehicle.

SOLUTION: This power control device for the parallel hybrid electric vehicle 40 has a control map 2 specifying the driven state of an engine 12 and a motor 14 according to a required driving torque and engine speed and having a target operating region 54 in which the component amount of prescribed substance included in exhaust gas from the engine 12 is minimized, drives the engine 12 preferentially over the motor 14 and controls to keep the operating state of the engine 12 within the target operating region 54.
