5-(4-(2-(N-Methyl-N-(2-pyridyl) amino)ethoxy)benzyl)thiazolidine-2,4-dione hydrochloride dihydrate (I), characterized by its infra-red and x-ray diffraction spectra is new. 5-(4-(2-(N-Methyl-N -(2-pyridyl)amino)ethoxy)benzyl) thiazolidine-2,4-dione (I) hydrochloride dihydrate, characterized by infra-red spectrum peaks at 3392, 2739, 1751, 1325, and 713 wavenumbers, and x-ray powder diffraction pattern (XRPD) peaks at 9.1, 12.0, 15.7, 16.3, and 19.8 degrees 2-theta , including isolated, pure, and crystalline forms, is new. An independent claim is also included for the preparation of the hydrochloride dihydrate salt (Ia), by treatment of (I) with a suitable source of chloride counter ion and appropriate amounts of water, followed by recovery of the product.
