<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for cooling an exothermic reaction, such as a shift reaction and/or selective oxidation reaction of carbon monoxide. <P>SOLUTION: The method for cooling the exothermic reaction zone includes: introducing a water flow and hydrocarbon-containing flow into a plurality of humidification pipes extending into the catalytic exothermic reaction zone including a catalyst fixed bed having a solid catalyst; introducing a process flow into the reaction zone for the purpose of the one or more catalytic exothermic reactions; passing the water flow in the form of a descending flow along the inner peripheral surfaces of the humidification pipes; humidifying hydrocarbon-containing flow with water in the humidification pipes under an indirect heat exchange with the exothermic reaction zone; extracting the cooled reaction product from the exothermic reaction from the reaction zone, extracting the heated and humidified hydrocarbon-containing flow from the humidification pipes and transporting the heated and humidified hydrocarbon-containing process flow for the purpose of secondary working. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
