A bismuth titanate fine particle having excellent dielectric characteristics, high crystallinity, and a small particle diameter is disclosed. A method for producing such bismuth titanate fine particles is also disclosed. The method includes a step for obtaining a fused material which contains, in mol % in terms of oxides, 23-72 % of Bi2O 3, 4-64 % of TiO2, and 6-50 % of B2O3; a step for quickly cooling the fused material into an amorphous substance; a step for precipitating a bismuth titanate crystal from the amorphous substance; and a step for separating the bismuth titanate crystal from the obtained crystallized material; which steps are performed in this order.
