<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system allowing a point light source to be accurately positioned and fixed to a light guide plate, and having excellent illumination performance; and to provide a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device 1 comprises this lighting system 2 and a liquid crystal panel 4 for receiving light emitted from the lighting device 2. The lighting system 2 is equipped with: the three point light sources 6, 6, 6; the plate-like light guide plate 8 made of a resin and comprising a light reception part 81 for respectively receiving the light emitted from the respective point light sources 6 and an emission part 82 for emitting light guided to the inside thereof from the light reception part 81 to the outside; a light control element 5 disposed around the light guide plate 8 and mounted by facing to the emission part 82 of the light guide plate 8; and a reflecting sheet 9 disposed in a position opposite to the light control element 5 with respect to the light guide plate 8.
