PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus having optimized operations to attach blur to a photographed image. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus attaches image blur to a through-image when a half depression operating signal is received (affirmative judgment in a step S101) (step S104), and releases the attachment of the image blur to the through-image when no half depression operating signal is received (negative judgment in a step S111). The imaging apparatus automatically permits attachment of the image blur when a photographing scene mode is set to a portrait mode. The imaging apparatus applies the image blur to a background region of a principal object. To a main photographing image obtained in accordance with the full depression operating signal, the imaging apparatus attaches (step S114) image blur similar to the image blur having been attached to the through-image (similar target region to which the image blur is applied and similar attachment amount of the image blur) just before a full depression operating signal is received.
