The method involves transmitting a signal by a transmitter, receiving an ultrasound signal by a receiver, determining current speed of actual sound, and estimating distance between the transmitter and the receiver from the current speed of actual sound, where the current speed of the actual sound is determined by receiving another ultrasound signal by an auxiliary receiver, determining temporal shift between the ultrasound signal received by the receiver and the ultrasound signal received by the auxiliary receiver and calculating the current speed of the actual sound from the temporal shift. An independent claim is also included for a distance measurement system comprising a reception device.
