1329534 Purification of esters MELLEBEZONS 25 April 1972 [26 April 1971] 19215/72 Heading C2C A process for the purification of a high boiling ester having a boiling point above 300‹ C. produced by esterification of an organic carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof by a monohydric alcohol or a polyhydric alcohol, in the presence of an esterification catalyst, neutralization of the reaction product, heating to 130‹ to 190‹ C. of the neutralized mixture and decantation of the latter to separate therefrom an organic phase and an aqueous phase comprises performing the decantation step at a temperature within the range of 120 to 200‹ C. and under pressure. The decantation step may be performed under a pressure within the range of 3 to 20 bar, effective. In a preferred embodiment after the decantation at the elevated temperature and under pressure the organic phase is washed at least once with hot water, preferably hot pure water. Preferably the first washing at least is carried out under the same conditions as the decantation. |
