Highly pure antimony trichloride for prodn. of antimony oxide pigment is prepd. by (a) reacting antimony sulphide particles in a reaction zone with a source of chlorine, essentially in the absence of oxygen and at a temp. sufficient to form antimony trichloride and sulphur or a sulphur cpd., and (b) purifying the formed antimony trichloride by fractional distillation to recover a fraction with a b.p. above 200 degrees C, (215-225 degrees C) esp. 220 degrees C at atmospheric pressure. Enables highly pure antimony trichloride to be recovered from minerals with a high arsenic content. |
