<p>A process for oxidising a 1,1-bis(alkylphenyl)alkane (II), in which the alkane bridge has 2-16C atoms, to form a cpd. (I) in which the alkyl substituents on the phenyl rings are converted to carboxylic acid substituents, without affecting the alkane bridge. (II) is contacted with molecular oxygen in a lower carboxylic acid contg. cobalt and a 3-6C aliphatic hydrocarbon. (I) can be reacted with polyhydric alcohols or diamines to obtain polyesters and polyamides respectively.</p> |
