Olefine and acetaldehyde oxidn - catalysed by silver cpds or vanadium oxides

Simultaneous prodn. of olefine oxides and AcOH by common oxidn. of olefines and AcH with an O2-contg. gas, esp. air, is catalysed by Ag cpds., esp. an Ag oxide or Ag salt, partic. a halide, or by V oxides, at 40-150 degrees C under 50 atmos. press. Olefin oxides are used in prodn. of polyurethanes, (poly)glycols and their esters, surfactants, anti-freeze agents, lubricants, softeners, illuminants. AcOH and acetates are used as solvents in prodn. of synthetic fibres, dyes, acetone, and in food ind. Oxidn. rate, olefine oxide yield (w.r.t. AcH converted) and concn. in reaction mixt. are raised, CO2 formation is prevented, and explosive peroxide amount is reduced.
