1360548 Surgical sponges CODMAN & SHURTLEFF Inc 16 Feb 1972 [17 Feb 1971] 7155/72 Heading A5R A surgical sponge 10 comprises a strip 11 of securely bonded non-woven fibres and a plastics retrieval thread 12 bonded to one side of the strip 11. The retrieval thread may have a flattened portion 13 which is bonded along its whole length or at spaced intervals along its length. Bands 14, 15 of radiopaque material may be bonded to the fibres. The thread and bands may be welded to the fibres ultrasonically by placing the strip 11, the thread 12 and the bands 14 and 15 under a shaped horn (23) (Fig. 3, not shown) of a welding device. The fibres may be rayon, the thread a multifilament polyester fibre, nylon or polypropylene and the radiopaque bands may be barium sulphate dispersed in poly vinyl chloride. |
