Heating is obtained from a wire used as a resistor (1) covered by two separate layers. The inner layer is heat conducting and the second is heat reflecting so that by varying the thickness of the layers heating is directed to the area requiring it. Both layers are flexible, synthetic or natural and resistant to water, or corrosion by acid. The heating cable may be attached to railway lines steel bridge sections and pipes carrying fuel oils by the use of clips or a bonding agent.
