The machine has feed and cutter assemblies and a longitudinally shiftable measuring device. The feed and transport frame is fitted with driven feed rollers in its lower part, and with pressure rollers in its upper part, as in 2235120. An inserting apparatus for manual or mechanical supply of two rods is provided, and has a switching cone which trips the lowering of the pressure roller(s) onto the rods and their pressing against the feed rollers, when the inserting apparatus is driven into the machine. The feed rollers take the rods to a swivelling cutting blade.
