A source for the generation of free charge carriers by means of corona discharges has one or more groups of electrodes, each connected to a terminal through a current-limiting device, with a single counter electrode directly connected to the other terminal of the voltage source, and provided with a series of points or serrations opposed to the set of electrodes. The arrangement is intended for the complete removal of static charges on the surfaces of insulating materials during processing. Pointed tips may be also provided on the individual electrodes. The source substrate may be of glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin.
