<p>A container for preserving perishable produce, esp. fruits, fresh vegetables, meat, poultry etc. comprises a double base, the upper supporting the produce and being pierced to communicate with the lower compartment between the bases. In the lower compartment contains a mixture (I) for preserving or processing the produce and the upper compartment is closed by a plastics film or cover, so that the produce is not in direct contact with (I) but is maintained in a confined atmosphere. (I) is pref. a mixture of a volatile bactericide and an agent retarding the evolution of the bactericide and opt. a processing agent (sorbic acid, citric acid etc.) and is absorbed on a cellular foam sheet in the lower compartment.</p> |
