The sprayer is hauled behind the tractor, and between the side shaft driven by one or more of the landwheels and the pump input shaft are a variable-speed device and a freewheel. The input shaft can be coupled directly to the power take-off of the tractor to which the sprayer is hitched, typically by means of a dog cluth. The drive from the landwheel can pass successively through a speed increasing gear, the variable-speed unit, a reduction gear and the freewheel. The design allows spraying at a rate remaining constant in relation to unit of area, while enabling the pump to be run faster whenever desired, e.g. when refilling.
|
