The required positions of relative movement between workpiece and electrode lie on the envelope of a hemisphere. A spacial movement between electrode and workpiece depends on the direction and magnitude of a space vector whose values are preselected by the control for the advancing drives. The initial point of te space vector lies in the centre of a hemisphere while its end point moves to the envelope of this hemisphere. The required and actual values of the space vector in the control are supervised by a regulator which in its part effects the rotation of the space vector after the required position has been attained. The direction of the space vector and its rotational speed in the XY plane are adjustable according to a variable ratio.
