<p>1413051 Compositions MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 5 March 1973 [6 March 1972] 10622/73 Headings C3P and C3R [Also in Division D1] A composition for conferring durably launderable and dry-cleanable oil- and waterrepellency on a fabric consisting substantially completely of hydrophobic synthetic fibres, comprises a blend, in aqueous or non-aqueous medium of (a) a fluoroaliphatic radical-containing substantially linear vinyl polymer containing from 10 to 60% by weight thereof of fluorine in the form of fluoroaliphatic groups terminating in CF 3 groups, the fluoroaliphatic groups each containing at least three fully fluorinated carbon atoms, and (b) a solvent soluble carbodiimide free from isocyanatereactive H atoms and containing at least one carbodiimide group and, when two or more carbodiimide groups are present, divalent organic radicals, obtained from diisocyanate by removal of the isocyanate groups, the divalent organic radicals linking successive carbodiimide groups. The vinyl polymer and carbodiimide may be in the ratio of from 10 : 90 to 95 : 5. The vinyl polymer is preferably an acrylate or methacrylate polymer or copolymer, many of which are specified, e.g. C 8 , copolymerized with minor quantities of methyl methacrylate and glycidol methacrylate. Alternatively fluoroaliphatic radical-containing polyvinyl ether may be used. The carbodiimides, many of which are specified, preferably have less than 20 carbodiimides units. The terminal and optionally also the linking groups may comprise fluoroaliphatic radicals such as pendant per fluorooctyl sulphonamido groups or other fluoro aliphatic radicals containing from 3 to 18 fully fluorinated carbon atoms.</p> |
