Hot extrudate is forced through 12 heated by 13, e.g. a steam jacket, and air is injected through 16 and 16<SP>1</SP> so that the extrudate undergoes cooling and fibrillation, 16 and 16<SP>1</SP> are provided with protusions, e.g. A and A<SP>1</SP> located so that air passing through them will impinge upon the hot extrudate at an angle of 45 degrees to the flow of that extrudate. |
