Equipment for coating paper and film strips - applies a gelatine and silver halide emulsion at a regulated temperature

A photographic emulsion consisting of gelatine and a silver halide additive may be applied under closely controlled temperature conditions at about 3 deg.C above the softening limit of the emulsion. The equipment comprises a supply reservoir and a heat exchanger unit with a heat input rate in the range 250 to 900 kcal/m2.h.deg.C. The film is fed through the sides of a parallel slot device with the emulsion fed to the inner face of the film and the heat fed to the outer wall. Settings of guide strips and feed rates are adjusted in accordance with the viscosity of the emulsion to ensure setting of the coating is complete before the paper or film leaves the apparatus.
