Safety fixing of ski-boot to ski - limits load exerted on boot but prevents complete separation of ski

The ski-boot (1) is held by the retaining devices (2) to the ski (3). The safety fixing consists of the strap (4) attached to the load limiting device (7) by the strap (6) and to the boot by the strap (5). The load limiting device (7) houses a spring loaded roller which presses against the end of the strap (6). The load exerted on the strap must be sufficient to overcome the friction of the roller before the ski is released from the boot. But the strap (6) cannot be pulled completely out of the device (7) so the ski cannot slide away from the skier to possibly injure any bystanders or cause damage to property.
