In use, lengths of the scales cm, Kg and #m Val (corresponding to known values of height, weight and deficiency per unit volume) are added around an arc of scale mVal starting from the origin thereof, the deficiency to be determined then being read off on scale mVal. Disc 10 also bears a scale ECR representing values of the magnitude of the extracellular space, a particular value of which can be determined by adding lengths of scales cm, Kgaround scale ECR. The other side of disc 10 may bear scales and be overlaid by a disc similar to disc 12 but graduated for calculations apertaining to children. The outer ends of cursor 16 and a cursor on the other side of the calculator may be joined by a formation which frictionally engages the disc 10, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown).</p> |
