Strains of Actinoplanes produce an antibiotic substance upon aerobic cultivation. The antibiotic is sparingly soluble in water with a pronounced band in the UV absorption spectrum at 307 nm. Methods for preparing and using the antibiotic, both therapeutically and for promoting livestock growth, and composition adapted for these uses are described. |
