The portable briefcase or bag which has at least one handle (2) mounted in the middle on the top is provided on the outside of at least one side wall (3) with a resilient band or belt (4) which is stretched taut across the longitudinal direction of the case so that newspapers, magazines etc., can be inserted and held firmly throughout the journey.
