LENGTHENING ANODE LIFE IN ELECTROLYTIC CELL HAVING MOLDED BODY

A pre-formed, non-conductive frame or body section for an electrolytic cell has the "filter-press" configuration, each frame having two electrodes and being divided into two compartments (anolyte and catholyte) by a membrane. Extensions forming manifolds for delivery, removal and drainage (for shut-down) of the electrolyte are integral with the frame and connected to the appropriate chambers by borings through the frame wall. The novelty lies in the provision of conductor made of suitably resistance material which connects the anode with electrolyte in the overflow or drainage manifolds and which passes through the passage connecting the anolyte compartment with the overflow or drainage manifold for the electrolyte. The conductor permits a small current flow from the anode to the liq. in the manifold(s) and thereby prevents current leakage from parts of the anode other than those with which the conductor is in contact. Anode life is extended to 1-5 years by control of current leakage area.
