Fabric bonding monitoring process - uses electrical signals for spot bonding density and fabric thickness to generate warning of faults

A process and appts. are claimed for monitoring and controlling the application of a synthetic resin underlay to a fabric, to be secured in place by spot bonding. A sensor provides a continuous monitoring of the applied layer and the fabric to develop an initial electric signal representing a section of the material and a second electric signal representing the weight of the laminate. There is a comparison of the signals against a pre-set standard value, for an optical and acoustic signal to be generated if there is a variation. The process gives a fully automated system which replaced manual supervision and the manual marking of faulty zones in the material.
