1477316 Belt conveyer rollers BROCKWAY ENG CO Ltd 16 Oct 1974 [18 Oct 1973] 48563/73 Heading B8A [Also in Division F2] In an idler roller assembly for an endless belt conveyer, if relative rotation between a bearing element 218 and a roller spindle 200 takes place, engagement between the surface of a spindle portion 202 and the surface of a bore 26 in the element occurs and further relative rotation is prevented since the engagement becomes firm by jamming. This is the result of the surface bore 26 being eccentric with respect to a ball bearing whose inner race 241 is secured on the element 218, and of spindle portion 202 being eccentric to a portion 203 of the spindle 200. The manufacture of the element 218 and the preparation of the spindle portion 202 may be carried out by turning operation using an offset collet chuck. A bearing housing 211 has flats (212) (Figs. 1-3, not shown) for engaging jaws (221) of upstanding supports (22), the flats having abutments (213) which, in co-operation with the jaws (221), prevent longitudinal displacement of the roller.
