<p>1479068 Mixing apparatus H IWAKO 2 May 1975 [10 May 1974 25 July 1974] 18385/75 Heading B1C Apparatus for dispersing a powder in a liquid comprises a tank 5 having a tangential liquid inlet 2, an inverted frusto-conical weir 6 down the inner surface of which the liquid flows as a thin film, a powder inlet pipe 1 opening at the bottom of the weir 6 on to a rotatable powder dispersing cone 9, an agitator disc 21 rotatable with the cone, a tangential mixture outlet 10, and an annular disc 7 which is guided by rods 8 and floats on the liquid in the tank to prevent disturbence of the surface which might interfere with flow over the weir. The agitator disc 21 may have rows of teeth 23 interdigitating with similar rows 16 depending from the underside of the tank, and fan blades 23 acted on by air from inlet 4 to assist in rotating the disc and discharging the mixture. Air is also fed through a pipe 3 and passing down the weir 6 entrains powder from the tube 1 and projects it on to the cone 9. In a modification (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) the air inlets 3, 4 and the guide rods 8 are dispensed with and the outer diameter of the annular float 7 is slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the tank. The apparatus may be used for mixing flour and water, moistening dust, or mixing carbon black with oil. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1388767.</p> |
