1481407 Collating sheets C R WATKISS 5 July 1974 [10 July 1973] 32757/73 Heading B8R A sheet-collating apparatus comprises a circular table 3, Figs. 1 and 2, rotated by a motor on a base 2 and supporting a plurality of rearwardly inclined partitions 4 defining pockets 5 therebetween. Each pocket contains a pile of sheets 26 and associated therewith is a friction separator 29 carried on an arm 30 passing through a slot 31 in the base 25 of the pocket and pivotally secured to an arm 32 pivoted to the table at 33. A cam follower 34 at the pivot between the arms 30, 32 rides on a stationary arcuate cam 35 while the pocket is passing under either of two collecting shoes 18 supported on the base 2, so that the top sheet is moved upwards. Each partition carries at its upper end a frusto-conical roller 21 tapering towards the axis of the table. As the pockets pass under the shoe, a sheet from each pocket is transferred to the lower surface 20 of the shoe to form a stack which is supported by the passing rollers 21, and by flexible strips projecting from the partitions. After one sheet from each pocket has been transferred to the shoe, a receiving platform 7 inclined to the horizontal and carrying guide rods 9 passes under the shoe and the stack is deposited on the platform. Successive collated stacks deposited on the platform are divided from each other by a dividing sheet deposited after each stack, or by rotating the shoe or the platform through 90 degrees between each deposition. An electric detecting device wired to the surfaces of the rollers 21, to the flexible stops and to contacts in the table, stops the table and/or gives an alarm signal if one pocket is empty so that no sheet is fed therefrom, or if two sheets are fed together from one pocket. |
