The procedure is for functional control of a checking equipment for confirming longitudinal cuts in a conveyor belt. The belt is provided with at least one longitudinal cut. The longitudinal cut regularly initiates a signal by the cheking equipemtn which is received by a switch link. The switch link and the predetermined cut in the belt and the checking equipment are so coordinated that a signal released by the checking equipment and initiated by the predetermined longitudinal cut in the belt does not activate a switching action. The switch link is so programmed that it will produce an optical or acoustic signal or operate a switch in the case of defective functioning of the checking equipment. Instead of one cut, a number of longitudinal cuts are spaced a predetermined distance apart along the belt.
