The gas-tight seal, for telecommunications cables, is made by deforming the cross-section of the cable. This is performed by three radially-acting blocks spaced 120 deg. apart around the circumference of the cable. A draw band (5) loops around the blocks (3) and when drawn tight forces them radially inwards against the outer sheath of the cable (1, 2). The ends of the band are clamped by a screw clamp (6) resting against one of the blocks. One advantage lies in the seal being made using existing tools.
