The unit consists of a plastically deformable sole plate(4) to which a heel piece (5) is fastened. The sole plate is made of sheet aluminium and has notches (7,13) at the sides and ends to help it to bend to the required shape and to define lines of weakness along which it can be broken to reduce it to the length of the patient needs. The heel piece - of foamed-polyurethane with a textured face for walking on - is fastened to the sole plate in the required position. The aim of the device is to allow an intimate connection between the sole plate and the plaster.
