The thermoplastic retaining collar, for communications cables, is split along its length and has lots in the edges of two of its flanges to accommodate a sealing compound and projections along the edges of its remaining two flanges to press into the compound when the two halves are brought together. Each slot (7) has a curved bottom (8) to provide a profiled seat for the bead-like sealing compound (11). Each projection (12) has a tip whose width is less than the width of the slot and a base (15) whose width increases to that of the slot. The slot depth is roughly equal to the dia. of the sealing bead.
