Rheological properties improvement of clay - by adding base to mixt. of clay suspension and aluminium salt to ppte. inorganic hydroxypolymer

The rheological properties of clay are improved by forming a mixt. of an aqs. clay suspension of pH 5-9 pref. 6-8 and an inorg. hydroxypolymer (I) contg. a weakly positive Al charge so that the mixt. contains 0.5-10, pref. 1-7 mg Al per g dry clay. For improving the rheological properties of clays with good whiteness and fine particle size, e.g. kaolin, kaolinite, dickite, nacrite and halloysite, and make them suitable for prepn. of ceramic slips and paper coatings.
