Support for circular workpiece on lathe faceplate - uses stepped dia. pegs locked into holes in jaws for holding thin-wall work

The supports (1) for attaching circular workpieces to the face-plate (2) of a lathe are in form of pegs with a reduced dia. shank which fits in holes (4) in the jaws (3) and are secured by screw (5). The circular head of the peg (1) has two inclined faces which meet at a diametral edge on the end of the peg. The screws abut against a flat on the shank of the peg and so prevent it from rotating. Other designs of peg have a flange with fixing holes for attaching to the jaws. The use of these pegs enables large circular work-pieces to be securely fixed to the face plate yet without risk of damage to thin-walled parts.
