Decolourising fermented protein material for animal food - by treating with sulphur-contg. reducing cpd.

A process for modifying colour of a pigmented living microbial material comprises treating an aq. suspension of the material contg. cells of a monocellular microorganism with a cpd. contg. sulphur and oxygen having reducing properties. The process is used to treat protein obtd. by fermentation usually from a petroleum hydrocarbon source. The treatment removes colour which can arise, e.g. green from Candida Lypolytica, and renders the prod. suitable for use in milk replacements for young animals.
