<p>Dihydroimidazo-isoindolediones of formula (I), and their optical and stereoisomers, are new In (I) X is H, Me, NO2, Cl, MeO or MeS; R1 is 1-4C alkyl; R2 is 1-6 C alkyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl, 2-4C alkenyl, Ph, halophenyl or benzyl; or CR1R2 is 3-6C cycloalkyl opt. substd. with Me; Y is H, NR3R4, OR5 or SR6; and R3-R6 are H or 1-4C alkyl). (I) are herbicides effective against mono- and di-cotyledonous plants on pre- or post-emergence use. Applied to soil or to broadleaf and grass foliage at 0.14-11.2 kg/hectare or at up to 27 kg/hectare against some perennial plants even on pre-emergence use. At low application rates some cpds. show such plant growth regulating effects as dwarfing or growth stimulation. In an example, 1,9b-dihydro-3-isopropyl 3-methyl-5H-imidazo 2,1-a isoindole-2(3H), 5-dione was obtd. by redn. with NaBH4 of a corresp. dehydro cpd.</p> |
