The packaging machine for textile articles has a bulk container (13) located below a vacuum pipe (16) mounted at the end of a vertical actuator (44). The article is lifted by the pipe and raised to the level of the transfer pipe (12). This pipe is also under vacuum from the suction pipe (47). The inside of the pipe end (16) has internal spring loaded tongs to grip the article. The transfer pipe has a control grid (49) to regulate the movement of each article. The articles are discharged into containers (52) travelling on a horizontal conveyor belt (54).
