A watch face fitted with an inlay, also an inlaid item of jewellery has a groove formed ultrasonically. The groove cannot be made by rotating cutting tools. The ultrasonic process includes the use of a profiled sonotrode and the inlaid section is then fitted into the groove obtained which originates from a metallic profile section identical to that used for making the tool used. The groove may be of any shape, for the decorative effect, and may be star shaped, spiral, zig-zag etc. The sonotrode is therefore of the same shape, and the insert is cut from a tube or strip of exactly the same cross section.
|
