The car park unoccupied place signalling system uses a common indicating support (12) structure for a group of parking places (2ad). The indicating support (12) is placed for example at the entrance to a parking place bay. The structure supports a series of lamps each of which correspond to one of the parking places. The lamps (304-307) when illuminated indicate the number of a particular place. A series switch (4) is designed to control the lighting and extinction of a lamp. The switch (4) is placed transversely across the floor of the parking place. The switch (4) being actuated when a vehicle enters or leaves the parking place. The lamp or lamps are illuminated when places are unoccupied and are extinguished when the places are unoccupied.
