<p>A contact system for a high current single pole electrical machine consists of a liquid contact between a rotating ring shaped section and a fixed counter contact. The ring shaped gap is filled with a metallic liquid and the voltage drop at the contacts and the contact losses are relatively small. The metallic liquid consists mainly of a sodium-potassium and galium-indium compound which exist in a liquid form at normal room temperatures. There are ring shaped insulating layers on the side of the ring shaped sections (1, 3) facing the ring shaped gap (4). The insulating layers distributed over the width of the ring shaped sections extend from the wall (9) of the ring shaped gap (4) in a radial plane. The height of the ring shaped insulating layers symmetrical with respect to the centre of the contact are different.</p> |
